Design No. 4,269, dated August 2, 1870.
DESIGN FOR AN ARM-CHAIR.
'i he Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WALTER E. CAMERON, of Taunton, in the county of Bristol and in the State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Design for Chairs; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which fully illustrates the same.
The nature of my design is the application of the form of the human leg, including the foot, to the legs of chairs for household uses.
In the drawing the legs are represented as out off at the middle of the thigh, where they are secured to the chair-bottom, the knees are slightly bent, and the feet point straight forward, all in the same line of direction.
I do not wish, however, to confine myself to this position of the feet or of the knees, or to the employment for chair-legs of the 'form of any portion of the human leg, as I desire to use for the purpose named the form of any portion or of the whole of the human leg and foot, in any natural position.
My design also covers, in addition to the parts described, the form and embellishment of the other portions of the chair, viz., the curved arms supported by standards, the curved side pieces, terminating in carved ends, the carved top rail of the back, and the bottom, each of these parts being of the form shown, and, all together, constituting the chair illustrated in the drawing.
Having thus described my design,
What I claim therein as my invention is- 1. The form of the human leg, or any portion thereof, applied to the legs of chairs for household purposes, as described and shown.
2. The design for a chair, as described and shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set in y hand this 15th day of July, 1870.
\VALTER E. CAMERON.
