DESIGN FOR A TRUNK-LOCK,
The fichedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the name.
I, Oonsnmns Wansn; of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New J erscy, have invented a new Design for a Trunk-Lock and Hasp, of which the following is a. specification.
Nature and Objects of the Invention.
My invention and hasps therefor, which may be applied to the trunk and lid respectively without recessing or mortising, and consists- First, in the conformation of the projecting front portion of the lock, within which the works are contained.
Second, in the relative form of the said projecting or convex portion, and of the front and the marginal flange, by which the lock is attached.
Third, in the conformation of the hasp, the lower leaf of which is hinged to the upper or attaching leaf at or near the lower edge of the latter, and is formed with a beveled edge around its lower part, and a square or angular shoulder, which fits over the projecting front part of the lock.
Description of the Accompanying Drawings. Figure 1 is a perspective view of the lock and hasp. Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same.
General Description.
A is the projecting front portion of the lock, with in which the works are contained, and
B its marginal flange, to receive screws or other fastenings for attaching it to the trunk.
relates to a. design for trunk-locks- The periphery of the convexity or projecting part A is straight or square at top and curved below, and forms a. bevel or oblique angle with the marginal flange B, The outer edge of the flange B may he scalloped, as represented, or in other ornamental manner, but this is not essential.
O is a cap-plate, covering and closing the loch at back, and coming about flush with the marginal flange B.
The lower leaf D of the hasp, on which the staple E is formed or attached, has a beveled outline, to impart an ornamental appearance; is provided with an angular shoulder, d, to adapt it to fit neatly over the front of the projecting part A of the lock, and around the square upper edge thereof, and is hinged to the upper or attaching-leaf F, at or near the lower edge of the latter, in any common or suitable way.
Claims.
I claim as my invention- 1. The conformation of the projecting front part A of the lock, substantially as specified.
2. The relative form of the projecting part A and marginal flange B, the part A forming an angular bevel with the flange B, and the latter having an outline of any desired form.
3. The conformation of the hasp, as specified.
