Description

'visies- ANDREW J. MORSE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
Design No. 3,959, dated April 5, 1870.
DESIGN FOR SODA-WATER FOUNTAINS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part ofthe same.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, ANDREW J. Mense, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented or produced an Improved Design for a Soda-Fountain; and I do hereby declare that the following, taken in connection with the drawings which accompany and form part of this speciiication, is a description of my invention suiiicieut to enable those skilled in the art to practice it.
Apparatus for dispensing sodawater beverages, formerly made as simple fountains, are now-a-days for the most part elaborately constructed as ornamental eases, made of marble, each case inelosing the whole series oi' Sirup-containing cans or bottles, each of which is connected to a Sirup-cock or faucet, extending from the outside ot' the ease, the soda-water pipe also extending through the case, and terminating in one or more draught-cm'fks at the side or sides of the case.
M y invention has reference to a peculiar shape or design for such a soda-water and sirup apparatus or ionntain case.
This design is shown in the accompanying photographic representation,
A rectangular box, a, is made of the necessary capacity for holding the desired number of Sirup-cans, which is arranged in a single row between the opposite ends, or from end to end, with outlet orices connected with the respective sirup-faueets b, or is arranged in two rows, it' desirable, with a double series of sirup-faneets, (on the opposite sides of the case,) one series for cach set of cans.
Over the Sirup-cocks or faucets are seen the draught cocks c, for drawing the aerated or gas-impregnated water, these cocks projecting from the saine wall cl, to which the Sirup-cocks are fixed.
The case is snrmounted by a peculiar roof', the opposite and similar sides of which slope toward the front and back of the case, this roof being formed double or two-storied, the upper part being composed of two stationary roof-pieees, c f, and the lower part of two pieces, g li, each or one oi' which is hinged and serves as a lid, through the opening covered by which, the cans are introduced, removed, and iilled.
Each roof-piece, e f g l1, projects at its ends and eaves beyond the walls of the case, as seen in the photograph.
rlhe hinges t' are screwed at one end of each to the lid g (or h) and at the other end to an adjacent vertical piece, L, placed between the lid and the stationary roof-piece above it.
Each end wall is continued np between the two roofs, as seen at l, and the outer surface oi' all or of either of' the walls may be ornamented by figures out in relief or intaglio, or by metal ornaments secured upon them.
lt is the peculiarly-eonstructed roof surmounting the case, or in the case so sui-mounted, that constitutes my improved design for a fountain or case for dispensing soda-water beverages.
I claim, as a new design for a fountain for sodawater beverages, a marble ease, surmounted by the peculiarly-formed roof, as shown and described.
ANDREW J. HORSE.
