Description

DESIGN.
No. 35,886. Patented Apr. 29, 1902.
B. NADALL.
FONT OF TYPE ORNAMENTS.
(Application filed Jan. 25, 1902.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BERNE NADALL, OF KINGSTON-UPON-TIIAMES, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE LINOTYPE COMPANY, LIMITED, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF TYPE ORNAMENTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,886, dated April 29, 1902.
Application filed January 25, 1902. Serial No. 91,289. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it ntay concern.-
Be it known that I, BERNE NADALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kingston-upon-Thames, in the county of Surrey, England, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Type Ornaments, of which the following is a specification.
My design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographical impressions, the types composing the font being numbered 1, 2, 3, and 4. I
Referring particularly to form numbered 1, it will be seen that the design presents a conventional illustration ofa leaf, substantially square in form and of irregular outline, and a stem connected at one end with said leaflike form and bent to form a border or inclosure about the same. The leaf-like portion of the design is of uniform shade and appearance throughoutits surface and the stemlike border is formed by a single line.
In form numbered 1 the stem-like line is connected with the central portion of the design at the lower left-hand corner thereof, and the free end of such stem-line terminates adjacent to said corner.
In form numbered 2 the parts are reversed that is, in this form the border-line is connected with the lower right-hand corner of the central leaf-like form and terminates adjacent said corner.
The forms numbered 3 and 4 each have at one end a serpentine scroll or line, at the other end a single line extending parallel to the main line of said scroll, and between said scroll and line two series of irregularlyshaped figures arranged in parallel lines or columns. Said forms numbered 3 and 4 differ from each other in the same manner that form numbered 1 is distinguished from form numbered 2nan1ely, that numbered 4 is the reverse of the one numbered 3.
The forms numbered 3 and at are of the same height as those numbered 1 and 2, so that when any two or more of said forms are assembled the top and bottom lines thereof will register.
The several type ornaments herein described are adapted to be grouped in various ways to form borders and other composite typographic ornaments.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.
The design for a font of type ornaments, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature Witnesses:
WARWICK H. WILLIAMS, RoDoLPHE J. OLEARY.
