UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH LEMAY, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design No. 34,874, dated July 30, 1901.
Application filed May 25, 1901- Serial No. 61,978. Term of patent 7 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH LEMAY, a citizen of France, and a resident of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and original Design for Corsets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawin gs,formin g a part thereof.
Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a corset embodying my new design, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
As shown in the accompanying drawings, the leading or material features of my design consist in the graceful shape, configuration, and ornamentation of a corset comprising diagonally-arranged seams and sections extending up and rearward from the front base.
The two sides A and B of the corset are alike in appearance, being laced together at the rear in the usual manner and detachably united in front by plain clasps and studs C and D, respectively. Each side comprises a front part a, having a concavo-convex seam b, a bust part 0 extending the entire length of the corsetin substantiallya diagonal manner. A third diagonal part (1 is secured to the part c by a curved seam e. A fourth diagonally-arranged part f is secured to said part d by a diagonally-curved seam g. The
fifth or back part his connected by a concaVo-convex seam 11 with said part f, and it, together with a substantially triangularshaped gore j, completes the several parts employed. The several front parts are wider at their top than at their bottom and, together with the rear part h, are of such a shape that the seams uniting the same run diago= nally from top to bottom, extending from the top of the front and side to the lower front portion, thus drawing in said lower front part, as shown in Fig. 2. A plain band 70 is provided on the lower edges of the design, and a suitable lace Z serves to finish the top edge, as shown in the drawings.
This design of corset belongs to that class of goods where the strips or stay-pockets are arranged upon the under side of the garment and do not run with the seams.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a corset, as herein and described.
Signed at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, this 14th day of May, A. D. 1901.
JOSEPH LEMAY.
