UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE GRAY, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A CHANDELIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 33,392, dated October 16, 1900.
Application filed. July 25,1900- Serial No. 24,825- Term of patent '7 years.
To ctZZ whom it Wtzty concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE GRAY, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, city of New ork, county of Kings, State of New York, iave invented and produced a new and original Design for a Chandelier, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new, useful, and original configuration of an article of manufacture known as a chandelier; and it consists in so grouping the component parts as to form a concrete whole, very effective and ornamental.
The accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification, shows a perspective view of a chandelier, illustrating my new design.
The general and leading features of the design are the deflector, a central stem, a translucent globe having the shape of a truncated ellipse, a holder, and a ball ornament underneath, the nomenclature being that used in the trade.
The fixture is composed of a tubular coupling 1, somewhat concealed from View from beneath the lamp by the conventional canopy 2, which is near the upper end of the tubular stem 8.
4 is an inverted flattened cone placed on the tube 3 some distance below the canopy, as shown. An ornamental shell 5 rests on the inverted cone. The globe 6 is of a translucent glass of just suflicient density so that the light emitted by the cluster of gas-burners within its confines will be diffused and the individual mantles or jets beinvisible through the globe, which is egg-shaped or the shape of an ellipse truncated at top and bottom, the upper opening being larger in diameter than the lower one.
Beneath the globe is an ornamental holder 8, so called, and a round ball 9, to give a vanishing line to the bottom completes the de- Sign.
The chandelier shown and described has a pleasing and ornamental appearance.
What I claim is The design for a chandelier as herein shown and described.
Signed by me at New York city, New York, this 24th day of July, 1900.
GEORGE GRAY.
