UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM O. VVORTII, OF (JIIIGAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR ()h TIVO-TIIIRDS TO WILLIAM R. DONALDSON, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY, AND HENRY \V. KELLOGG, OF BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN.
DESIGN FOR A FRAME FOR MOTOR-VEHICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 32,199, dated February 6, 1900. Application filed August 19, 1899. $eria1No. 727,860. Term of patent 14-. years.
To ctZi/ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, W ILLIAM 0. WORTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of (look and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Frames for Motor-Vehicles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof.
The figure isa perspective view of a motorsupporting frame, showing my new design.
The structure A of the frame is com posed of one piece of tubing having a practically square cross-section, but exterior round cor- 15 ners. The tubing is bent into the form shown, the two sides being parallel except at a point near the front, where the parallelogram is somewhat contracted. Near the rear end the structure is bent in circular form at points where otherwise the two corners would appear.
Near the center of the tubular structure A, joining the two sides thereof, is a cross-piece D, bent down, as shown, and connecting the two sides of the tube comprising the parallelogram A. The piece D is composed of tubing similar to that of which the parallelogram A is composed. Another cross-piece D, similar to D in every respect, joins the two sides 0 of the frame A at a point just in the rear of that where the structure begins to narrow, as shown in the figure. A skeleton framework composed of cross-bars d d rises above the structure A. Said bars are attached to the side thereof, are bent at a right angle, and extend upwardly and inwardly and rest upon an iiwerted-U-shaped support (1, the legs of the latter being supported by the cross-pieces D and D'.
The essential features of my design there- 40 fore embrace the two parallel side pieces comprising the major portion of the structure,
a downwardly-curved crosspiece near the center thereof joining the two sides, another similar cross-piece parallel therewith also joining the two sides of the main portion of the structure at a point practically midway between the first-described cross-piece and the front end of the main structure, a frame attached to one of the side pieces of the main structure extending upwardly and inwardly between the said cross-pieces, the upwardlyextending end resting upon an inverted-U- shaped support, the legs of the latter resting upon the said downwardly-curved crosspieces.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 18-
The design for a frame for motor-vehicles, as herein shown and described.
