DESIGN FOR A RAlLWAY-CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,638, dated October 10, 1899. Application filed September 18, 1899. Serial No. 730.947 Term of patent 14 years.
lie it known that we, \VARREN t. PATTER- SUN and Axnnnw J. FLYNN, citizens of the United States, residing at 'lamaqua, in the countyof Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Railway-Chair, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of the chair, showing the new design. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the Same. Fig.3 isasection takenlongitudinally through the same.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings.
The leading or material features of the design consist of the particular configuration of the supporting-base or body portion 1 and the particular shape of that portion of the article which in practice comes in contact with and engages the head of the flange of the railwayrail. The body portion 1 is of oblong shape in plan View, being provided at its inner end with square corners 2 and having its outer end rounded in semicircular form, as shown at 3, and provided centrally of said rounded end with a square notch 4, comprising three straight sides arranged at right angles to each other, the said notch extending from the extreme outer edge of the body inward a distance approximately equal to its width.
ltising from the base or body 1 is a lug 5, which is made tapering and which gradually increases in depth and thickness from the outer rounded edge of the body portion toward the inner end of the body, the said lug terminating ina shoulder li,disposcd perpendicularly to the base or body 1, and also comprising a curved lip or extension 7, having one convex and one concave face, the lower and inner face being convexed, as shown at E and being described on the are approximately of a quarter-circle. The outer concaved face 10 of the lip is described on a smaller are, concentric, however, to the are of the inner or convex surface 9.
Railway-chairs constructed in accordance with the design hereinabove described and illustrated in the drawings may of course be of anysize and are applicable not only to railjoints, but to railway-frogs, &c.
Having described our invention, What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a railway-chair, as herein shown and described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto afiixed our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
