DESIGN FOR A LEATHER-FINISHING ROLL.

SPECIFICATION forming. part of Design No. 30,854, dated May 23, 1899. Application filed March 7,1899. Serial No. 708,144. Term oi patent 14 years.

To all whrmt it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. DoWNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salem, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Leather-Finishing Roll, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.

Figure 1 shows in front elevation a leatherfinishing roll,illustrating my new design; Fig. 2, adiagram showing particularly the rounded faces of the ribs on the cylindrical body.

As shown in the drawings, the leading or material feature of my design consists in a finishing-roll provided with two series of ribs A A, disposed or arranged spirally on a cylindrical body, as shown in Fig. 1, the said ribs having rounded faces. The spiral ribs of each series A A are arranged at approximately right angles to the other, meeting at or about the middle of the cylindrical body. Each rib of each series crosses the end of one of the ribs of the other series and terminates at the rib next to the one which it crosses at a short distance from the end, thereby presenting to the eye a zigzag rib along the middle of the cylindrical body. Each rib has a rounded face, which feature is essential to my design.

I claim- The design for a leather-finishing roll substantially as shown and described.
