WITNESSES INYENTOR 1 'WW'4 W IN umm: Minna cmunvuuma wwwnon UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY \VA'JERS HARTMAN, 01* ELTJVOOT) CITY, lENNSYLVANlAl DESIGN FOR A MAT OR SIMILAR ARTICLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,075, dated January 24, 1899.
Application filed April 19,1898. Serial N0. 678,190. Term of patent 14 years.
To (1. whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY WATEEs HART- MAN, of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Mats or Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure 1 is a face view of a portion of a mat or similar article to which the design is applied, and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same.
The design relates particularly to the shape or configuration of the upper and lower faces of a mat or similar article.
The design will be best understood by the description of its embodiment as shown in the accompanying drawings; and it consists in the general shape, conformation, and outlines. I do not mean by this to imply that the design relates in any way or is limited to lateral outlines, for it may be continued for an indefinite extent in any direction, as shown in the drawings, wherein the design is broken off, indicating its indefinite continuation in some directions, and is bounded in other directions by the termination of the plate P.
Intermediate of and between the upper and lower limits of a wire fabric is incorporated a plate or surface 1, having perforations or holes II at definite intervals. As seen in Fig. 1, which shows the obverse or face side, the wires of the fabric rise through the perforations II and descend through neighboring perforations, so as to form a regular pattern appearing in front of the plate P, which forms a background. As seen from the rear or reverse side there appears, in addition to the wires and conformation just stated, a second set of intertwined wires intertwined with the wires which extend through the holes 11 and arranged in a regular pattern. The second series or set of intertwined wires do not affect the appearance of the face or obverse view, as is clear from an inspection of Fig. 1.
I claim, and desire to secure by these Let ters Patent, the following:
The design fora mat as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, at New York city, this 25th day of March, 1898.
