DESIGN FOR A P ORK OR -SPOON-HANDLE CALLED POMPEIAN.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE IVILKINSON, of the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have originated a new Design for Articles of Silver, and other metals and plated were, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying specimens or drawings, making part of this specification; that is to say, for a design called the Pompeian, for the handles of spoons, forks. and other table-ware and implements, of which- Figure 1 represents the front side of the said design, and
Figure 2 represents the back side of the same.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
The said design is of a flat handle, with a curved tapering stem, h, terminating in a head-shaped plate, 3, from which the handle gradually widens into the blade m, the end of which terminates with the outline of two scrolls, b b, and the knob or centre of the Grecian ornament, f, which embellishes the front side of the handle.
The edge of this handle is ornamented on both sides with beads or threads r, and the said head-shaped plate 3 is ornamented in front with a shell or similar ornament.
On the back side, fig. 2, there is a Grecian scroll, v, at the end of the handle, with scroll ornaments on the head-shaped plate a, and an ornament of a Grecian honeysuckle, h, at thcjunction of the handle with the bowl of the spoon or other implement.
Claim. I claim the design for the handles of spoons, forks, and other table-ware and implements, substantially as set forth and shown.
