Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
, GEORGE S. MOYVER, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A PUZZLE-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,802, dated December 13, 1898.
Application filed November 12, 1398. Serial No. 696,302i Term of patent 8% years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE S. MOWER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Puzzle-Boxes,of which the following is a specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a per spective View of a puzzle-box constructed in accordance with my design. Fig. 2 is an ele vation of one of the dividing-partitions in the box, and Fig. 3 is a plan view indicating in dotted lines the different passages through the partitions.
The leading or material feature of my design consists of the puzzle-box forming the subject of the illustration in the drawings.
The box A is formed with a fiat bottom and vertical sides B, extending upwardly from the outer edges of said bottom, forming an inner rectangular receptacle. Within this receptacle four vertical partitions C, D, E, and F and four horizontal partitions G, H, I, and J are placed, the same being suitably connected to each other and spaced apart an equal distance, so that a series of rectangular compartments numbered from 1 to 25 are formed within the box. The dividing-partitions have slots cut in the lower edges thereof, forming passage-ways between the different compartments formed by said partitions, the said slots being arranged in the different partitions as follows: In partition 0 three slots are formed, producing a communication between compartments 1 and 2, 11 and 12, and 21 and 22. In partition D are four slots, forming communications between compartments 2 and 3, 7 and 8, 17 and 18, and 22 and 23. In partition E two slots are formed, forming communications between compartments 3 and 4 and 8 and 9. In partition F four slots are formed, forming communication between compartments 9 and 10, 11 and 15, 19 and 20, and 24 and 25. In partition G are three slots, forming communication between compartments 6 and 11 and 10 and 15. In partitionI are four slots, forming communication between compartments 11 and 16, 12 and 17, 13 and 18, and 14 and 19. In partition J two slots are formed, forming communication between compartments l6 and 21 and 19 and 24.
Having now described the invention, what I claim is--=- The design for a puzzle-box, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE S. MOWER.
Witnesses: EDWIN H. SMITH, WILLIAM W. BROWN.
