SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,434, dated October 4, 1898. Application filed August 25, 1898. Serial No. 689,525. Term of patent 8% years.
T0 to whont it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER BEST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and origiynal Design for a Clock-Case or Similar Article; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my newlydesigned case for clocks or similar articles, and Fig. 2 is a section thereof on line a: of Fig. l.
As shown in the drawings, the leading feature of my design consists in a case outlined by scrolls and having the figure of a naval oflicer at each side and a battle-ship at the top.
In said drawings, a a and b 19 indicate opposite pairs of long scrolls outlining the feet of the case and having their concavities facing inward toward each other. Small out wardly-facing scrolls c c are displayed at the lower part of the outer sides of said feet. At the upper and outer part of the feet are outwardly-concave scrolls (Z d, and above each of said scrolls is the figure of a naval officer e, appearing to stand upon the scroll cl at the side of the case.
The upper ends of the inner scrolls a a of the feet lie close together, and directly above is a centrally-disposed circular opening f for a dial. At each opposite side of said opening f is a pair of small scrolls g g, placed with their convexities contiguous, and directly above each pair of small scrolls is arranged a pair of larger outwardly-convex scrolls h h, inclosin g between them a spiral-shaped ornament Z.
Above each pair of scrolls 7:, 7L is a circular opening i for a dial, and between said openings t 't', and in line with the centrally-disposed circular opening f is a central oblong opening j for a thermometer.
The top of the case is ornamented by the representation of a battle-ship 7t, and between said battle-ship and the openings 1' i and j is an irregularlinem of small scrolls and curves.
\Vhat I claim as new is The design for a clock-case or similar article, as herein shown and described.
