BARTON P. JENKS, OF BOSTON, MASSACIIUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A CANDLESTICK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,968, dated July 5, 1898.
Application filed May 15,1897. Serial No. 636,795. Terni of patent 3l years.
To all whom it may concer/z.:
Be it known that I, BARTON P. J ENKs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Candlesticks, of which the following is a speeilieation.
My design is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation ot' a candlestick embodying my design. Fig. 2 is a reduced cross-section taken on line X X of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the eandlestick shown in Fig. l.
Theleading feature of my design is the configuration and ornamentation given to the body portion of the candlestick, which body portion may be described as consisting of four sides or panels, the vertical lines of which curve outward, slightly converging at their lower ends to a point where the body portion joins the adjacent portion of the candlestick, and said panels also curving outwardly as to their horizontal lines and so proportioned as to give an oblong contour to a horizontal section of said body portion. Two of the opposite panels are left plain, while the other two are given an ornamentation hereinafter more particularly described.
In the drawings, A represents the main body portion of my Candlestick, composed of the four panels a ci, each of which curves outward slightly as to its vertical lines and also curves outward more considerably as to its horizontal lines, thus giving tothe body portion the cross-sectional outline best shown in Fig. 2. These panels converge at their lower ends, where they are joined to the base B of the Candlestick. At their upper ends these panels are joined to a contracted neck a'. Two of the opposite panels are left nnornamented, while the other two have at their lower portions a number of upwardly-diverging rounded ribs (1X, terminating at the upper ends in depressions c, the outlines of which form a continuation of the outlines of the ribs.
To form the entire candlestiek, the body portion just described is united to another portion O, similarly shaped, but shortened in its vertical dimensions. Except for the change in its vertical dimensions the body portion O is formed on substantially the same lines as the body portion A. rlhe upper portion of the body O is contracted into a neck portion e', which is provided with a llaring mouth c2. The base ll has its horizontal lines similar to those of the body portion, as shown in Fig. 2, and its edge is scalloped, as shown at b. Each of the body portions A and C is provided at its bottom with an ornamental beading Im mr, as shown.
I claim- The design for a candlestick herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
BARTON P. JENKS.
Witnesses:
JOHN C. EDWARDS, THOMAS J. DRUMMOND.
