DESIGN FOR A DISPLAY-STAND.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,785, dated October 26, 1897.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, THOMAS P. MCHUGH, of the city of St; Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a new and original Design for Display-Stands, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof.

The figure is a view in perspective of a display-stand embodying my design.

As shown in the drawing, the leading or material feature of my design for a displaystand consists of legs arranged in the form of a rectangle and framed together at their upper ends, a shelf resting upon the upper ends of said legs, a shelf inserted between saidlegs and below the first-mentioned shelf, a back extending upwardly from the rear side of the first-mentioned shelf, said back being nearly as wide at its lower end as said first-mentioned shelf is long, and the width of the upper end of said back being substantially equal to one-third the length of said first-mentioned shelf, a third shelf attached at its rear edge to said back and supported at its front corners by pillars resting upon the first-mentioned shelf, a fourth shelf attached at its rear edge to said back and supported at its front corners by pillars resting upon the third-mentioned shelf, pillars extending upwardly from said back and a horizontal bar connecting the upper ends of said pillars.

Referring by numerals to the drawing, the legs 1 are arranged in vertical positions and in the form of a rectangle, their upper ends being framed together by means of the bars 2, and the shelf 3 rests upon the upper ends of said legs and upon the upper edges of said bars 2. A shelf 4 is placed below the bars 2 and its corners are attached to the legs 1. The back 5 extends upwardly from the rear edge of the shelf 3, the lower end of said back being nearly as long as said shelf, while the upper end of said back is one-third as long as said shelf. A shelf is attached atits rear edge to the back and its forward corners rest upon the pillars 7. The shelf 6 is two-thirds as long as the shelf 3 and about one-half as wide. The shelf 8 is attached at its rear edge to the back 5 and its forward corners are supported by the pillars H. The shelf 8 is somewhat narrower than the shelf 6 and about one-half as long. A molding 10 is attached to the upper edge of the back 5. The pillars 11 extend upwardly from the ends of the molding 10 and have the heads 12 upon their upper ends, said heads being connected by the horizontal bar 13. The shelves are arranged in horizontal planes one above the other and suitable distances apart, and the back 5 is contracted in width to correspond to the varying lengths of the shelves 3, G, and 8. The pillars 11, the heads 12, and the horizontal bar 13 may be omitted, if desired.
