Description

OR D271734 DESIGN.
S. O. BIGNEY. ORNAMENTAL CHAIN.
Patented Ont. 19, 1897.
WIT N35535: 17;??1'05: gar/{ 0% 521%}? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIDNEY O. BIGNEY, OF ATTLEBOROUGII, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR AN ORNAMENTAL CHAIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,734, dated October 19, 1897.
Application filed January 19, 1897. Serial No. 619,808. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIDNEY O. BIGNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleborough, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Watch or other Ornamental Chains, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, forming apart thereof.
Figure 1 is a view of the broad sides of a chain, showing my design. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the chain. Fig. 3 is a side view of one of the links of the chain; and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view showing two links interlocked, these four views being deemed necessary to fully illustrate my design.
The leading feature of my design consists in the two divergent concaved channels on one side of each face of an oval link and the flattened side of the face of the link back of said channels, which in the chain, when viewed on the edge, as shown in Fig. 2, present a series of links having a straight outer surface and curved inner surface and placed alternately 011 one and the other side of the chain.
In the drawings, A A indicate elongated chain-links having the semicircular ends a a and the straight sides a a. The links A have in their sides the divergent concaved channels B B, and between these channels the raised V-shaped surface a. The surface C of one side of the link, which side forms the surface of the chain when the links are connected, is flattened so that the surfaces of the chain form the flattened and nearly continuous faces, as is shown in Fig. 2, while the inner adjacent surfaces of the links form convex surfaces. As seen from the edge, (shown in Fig. 2,) the chain consists of a series of links having alternately flat exterior and convex interior surfaces between divergent concaved channels, the sides of which chain present two continuous fiat surfaces G C one near each edge of the chain.
Having thus described my newly-produced design, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat-ent- The design for an ornamental chain herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
SIDNEY O. BIGNEY.
