Description

D11-l5. OR 020,052 EX DESIGN.
G4 U. MEYER. ORNAMENTAL CHAIN.
No. 20,052. Patented July 22, 1800.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
GEORGE U. MEYER, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
r DESIGN FOR AN ORNAMENTAL CHAIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,052, dated July 22, 1890. Application iilecl June 10, 1890. Serial No. 354,947. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE U. MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Ornamental Chains, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
This invention has reference to ornamental chains in which the links are partially twisted, known in the art as trace and curb chains; and it consists in the peculiar and novel form of the Wire of the links, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
Figure 1 is a side View of a piece of chain of successive links, each link being twisted onequarter of a turn, known in the art as a trace-chain, showing my design. Fig. 2 is a side view of a double curb-chain showing my design; and Fig. 3 is a view of half of one of the twisted links, the form of the wire being shown in section.
The leading feat-ure of my design consists in the raised edges of the links when viewed on the side of the chain, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, produced by the peculiar sectional form of the wire shown in Fig. 3.
In the drawings, the letters a a indicate the raised, preferably rounded, edges of the wire or body of the chain-links; b, the concaved surface of the links between the edges a. a, and c the convex surface of the inner portion of the links. The raised edges a of the links form diagonal raised bars in the chain, and the concaves b forni depressed diagonal concave channels, giving to the chain a marked distinct character and prod ncing a novel and pleasing effect. The raised edges c and the conoaved surface b may be ornamented, if desired, in the manner usual with the links of this class of chains without affecting my design.
I-Iaving thus described my design, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design for ornamental chains herein shown and described, the same consisting of a chain having the links formed of a convex surface on one side and a concave surface bordered by rounded edges on the opposite side, the links being twisted to form the diagonal raised edges a a and intermediate concaved channels b, as set forth.,
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
GEORGE U. MEYER.
