UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID PERRY COOPER, ()F S'IRUTIIERS, OIIIO.
DESIGN FOR A PERCH-IRON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,642, dated September 14, 1897.
Application filed July 26,1897. Serial No- 646,041. Term of patent 7 years.
To (1U whom, it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, DAVID PERRY COOPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Struthers, in the county of Mahouing and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Design for Perch-Irons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawwas.
The design that I have invented relates to what are known as perch-irons," and are the irons adapted to be fitted and secured to the ends of the reach or perch of a vehicle.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a perch-iron constructed and formed after my design. Fig. 2 is a view of the same from beneath, showing the form of the under surface thereof; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view upon the section-line 3 3.
In the several views the same numeral always indicates the same part.
1 represents a strip of malleable iron or similar material, with the rounded end 2, and presenting arounded or arched form. (Shown in the sectional view, Fig. 3.) At the other end of the strip 1 is a beveled portion 3 and a hole 4. Adjacent to the hole 4 and projecting from the top oi. the strip 1 is a lug 5 of a generally rectangular form and having in its face the cylindrically-concaved recess 6. Upon the opposite or under side of the strip 1 projects a rectangular lug 7, with a hole 8, and one face thereof rounded out, as at 9. Adjacent to the lug 7 and projecting from the same side of the strip 1 are the wings 10 of a circular form and with a hole 11 through the strip between them.
The leading and essential feature of my design resides in the arched form of the strip 1, already described, and in the rounding out of the lug at 9 in the manner fully shown, combined with the wings, all producing certain results not deemed necessary to detail, as the invention is for the design and not the mechanical utility thereof.
\Vhat I desire to protect by my Letters Patent and to secure thereby is The design for a perch-iron, substantially as herein shown and set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID PERRY (MOPBIR.
