DESIGN FOR A JOlNT -LUG FOR BlCYCLE-FRAMES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 25,591, dated June 2, 1896.
Ap licati n fil d October 14, 1395. Serial lie. 565,693. Term of patent T years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lllnnr: GUY, a subject of the Queen of Great lnritain, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented, created, and produced a new and original Design for Joint-Lugs for Bicycle Frames and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
Mynew design relates to the shape of joint lugs for bicycle-frames, and com prises as distinctive features new shapes for the vortical or upright and lateral or inclined members of such join t-l ugs.
The new design is shown in the acmiimpan y ing drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a joint-lug for a bicycle-frame embodying the features of the new design, and Fig. 2 is a top plan View thereof.
Referring to the d rnwings, A is the upright tubular member, and B the lateral or an gular tubularmember of a jointdug [or a bicycleframe. The member A is internally and ext-ernally cylindrical and. has parallel top and bottom ends extending in planes at right ivhglizo in) its Etlxlb, llibae Quill: i Cling, lubi crul a and b, respectively. The wall c of the member A is externa ly smooth and cylindrieal. The lateral member 13 is also inter- 0 nally and externally cylindrical and has an upper end d, which merges into the wall of the member A at c, a lower or outer end f, and an intermediate smooth cylindrical Wall g.
The distinctive features of my new design reside in the shape of the member A and in the shape of the outer end of the member B.
According to the new design the member A has like cylindrical portions G at top and bottom and an intermediate recess or apcr tnre l), separating the portions 0 and having a curved wall 7a of substantially semicircular shape when viewed from the side of the jointlug. The wall 72 substantially opposite the junction of the lateral and upright members and approximates in its outline the reverse oi'the line c of junction between the members A and 1%.
According to another feature of the new design the lower or outer end of the member 3 is bifurcated by a tapering: recess E and terminates in two tapering: points 1* F. The walls of the recess E consist of a sharp hall"; circle 5 at the inner or upward extremity of the recess near the longitudinal middle of the member 1%, then opposite gradual convex curves j, diverging from the curve i and meeting a short and substantially semicircular curve 7:, terminating the ends F of the member 12.
The new design gives an attractive and graceful appearance to the joint-lug.
Thedesign '1irajoint-lugforbicyele-frames and the like, substantially as shown and described. 6 5
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
