le it known that l, CHARLES l. SMITH, a eitizen of the United States, residing at New lritain, in the County of Hartford and State of (lonneetieut, have invented and produced a new' and original Design for Cutlery-Ilandles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the aeeonipanying drawings, in Whieh Figure l is a side elevation of a knifehan die, showing my design. Fig. is a plan or edge View of the saine.

My handle comprises a tang 3 of a knife or fork, the bolster 4, tip 5, and scales G. It is oval in cross-section or end View and slightllrv tapering in side View, being the broadest at the butt.

'lhe middle portion olf the handleseales is ornamented hyan inlaid ornament eousisting of a Central hub 7, a circular har or ring H (ameentrie therewith, eentral and dialuetrieal longitudinal arlns or bars fl i), and transverse arms or hars l0 l() intersecting said ring, as Shown.

The arms, although host seen when the handle presents a side View, partially shew when the handle is seen iu plan or edge View, as in Fig.
