UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

NIHVARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,180, dated April 9, 1895.
Application fi d January 8, 1895. Serial No. 534,260. Term ofpatent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIs A. MYERS, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and originalDesign for Buckles, of which the t'ollowingisa full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
In said drawings, Figure 1 is a face view of a buckle embodying my new design; and Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same.
My novel design for buckles, consists in the outer circular ring a, provided with small rosettes a, and a second circular ring a substantially as shown in Fig. 1, and connecting said rings CL and a are foliated scrolls, thereby producing a beautiful ornamental frame, which forms part of my novel design, as shown. This frame consists of the conventional lotus c havingthe circular shaped portions 0 tangent to the inner surface of the ring a and terminating in small spheres or balls 0 as shown. Between each lotus c is a lotus leaf d resting against the ball-shaped ends of the curved portions 0' of each lotus c. On a band d connecting the curved portions 0' of each lotus, is a sphere or ball (1 from which extend two scrolls e which termi mate in ornamental ends e on the upper surface of the ring a. From the apex c of each lotus c extend two oppositely curved bands f which are made to extend over and beyond the central ring (L as shown. Between the spaces formed by said convex bands f and the lotus c are ornamentations forming foliations f, and between the convex bands formed directly on the ring a are small spheres or balls a lhave illustrated in connection with the ornamental frame, embodying the features of my design, a plate I) secured thereto, having a hook 1), whereby the design is adapted for its use as a buckle.
The essential feature of the design therefore is the arrangement of the lotus, with their foliated ornamentations, terminating at each apex in the curves or bands of an ovate form, as will be seen and understood upon reference to the drawings.
Of course it will be understood, that the ornamental hands a and a may be circular, as shown in the accompanying drawings, but they may be of any other suitable outline, the essential feature of the design being the arrangement of the lotus, with their foliated ornamentations, terminating at each apex in the curves or bands of an ovate form.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The design for a buckle, substantially as herein described and shown.
In testimony that I claim the invention set; forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of January, 1895.
LEYVIS A. MYERS, JR.
