Carpets DESIGN.
A. M. ROSE'. CARPET.
No. 23,823. Patented Nov. 27, 1894.
@fama/@m y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
, ARTHUR MIDDLETON ROSE, OF YON'KERS, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE WORCESTER CARPET COMPANY, OF MASSACHUSETTS DESIGN FOR A CARPET.'
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,823, dated November 27, 1894. Application filed August 22, 1894. Serial No. 521,035. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR MIDDLETON ROSE, residing at Yonkers, county of Westchester, State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Pattern to be Wrought in Brussels and Wilton Carpets in such Colors as May be Desired, of whichthe following is a specification.
My invention consists in the design for thei body of the carpet, in the design for the border, and in the design for the two cornbined. y
The design of the body A consists of eigh lozenge shaped panels similar in outline and size, and all having ornamentation of figures and of a lace work, character, the ornamentation of each panel being different in details. The panels are separated from each other by wavy lines, with ornamental iigures at the points where any two wavy lines approach each other. Two of the panels are arranged in line along the middle of a carpet breadth, with their ends connecting, and four are arranged in two lines, one along one side and the other along the other side of the carpet breadth. These latter four panels are placed 4side by side and end to end, andthery adjoining sides and ends form one of the middle breadth panels. The other` two panels are shown, each in two halt sections, along the edges of the carpet breadth, with their ends connecting. One half of each section lies along one side of one of the middle panels and the other half of this section lies along the other side of the next middle panel. This arrangement results, when the carpet isput together, in longitudinal and transverse' rows of connected panels.` There are four longitudinal rows, in each of which the panels are dierent from those in the other rows, and in each of which there are two patterns of, panels which alternate. There are two trans verse rows, in each of which the panels are four in number, each panel being repeated every fourth one. One of these rows is made up of the panels arranged on either side of the'lniddle of the breadth, and the other of these rows is made'up of, the panels arranged along the middle and/along the edges of the breadth. f/
The design of the border B consists'ota narrow inner edge lying right along the line of the carpet breadth; then a broad band of the same lace work character as the carpet, but with different figure, bounded by a series of reversed arches; then an outer edge or heel having ornamental, figures at the ends and bows of these arches with a line of bead work lying outside of these latter figures. The outer edge of the border is ot the same general tone as the panels which lie along the two sides of the carpet breadth. The rest of the border is of the same general tone as the rest of the carpet. Theouter' edge and the panels similar thereto are preferably darker than the rest of the carpet. L
I have filed an application,Serial No. 525,730, dated October 12, 1894, wherein the body. here shown is claimed independently of the border, and also .an application, Serial No. 525,731, dated October 12,1894, wherein the border is claimed independently ofthe body, and I therefore do not claim these partsindependently of each other in this application. l
What I claim, and desire 'to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for-carpets consisting of the body A and border B, substantially as shown.
Signedby me, in New York, this 20th day of August, 1894.
y ARTHUR MIDDLETON ROSE.
