UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GILBERT L. OROVVELL, JR., OF ARLINGTON, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23 ,7 18, dated October 28, 1894.
Application filed July 28, 1894- Serial No. 518.399. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GILBERT L. CROWELL, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Arlingtomin the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Handles for Spoons, Forks, and Similar Articles, of which the following is a description, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, which illustrate the design.
Figure 1 of the drawings shows in elevation the front side of a spoon handle embodying one feature of my design, the dotted lines illustrating the application of such a handle to a fork. Fig. 2 shows the reverse or under side of the same.
The general outline of the spoon handle is of the spatulate order. The upper end of the handle bears on the front and rear sides thereof the shell-like figure A. The edges of the upper end of the handle, both on the rear and front, are ornamented with reverse and interrunning scroll-like figures B. On the front of the handle is the representation of a mask C, and at the lower end of the shank of the handle is a scroll figure D. At the heel of the spoon, or at the lower end of the handle or shank thereof, is the mask E.
The essential features of design of the obverse side of the handle, consist of the figure at the upper end of the handle, the figures at the edge thereof, and the representation of the mask on the face thereof.
The essential features of design of the reverse face of the handle, consist of the figures at the upper end and edges of the handle, and of the mask at the lower end of the handle.
What is claimed as new is- 1. In the design for the handle of a. spoon, fork or similar article, the obverse side of the handle, substantially as shown and described.
2. In the design for the handle of a spoon, fork or similar article, the reverse side of the handle, substantially as shown and described.
3. The design for the handle of a spoon, fork or similar article, substantially as shown and described.
GILBERT L. CROWELL, JR.
