UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERIG L. THOMPSON, OF NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE PAIRPOINT MANUFACTURING OOMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A SUPPORT FOR PITOHERS OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design No. 23,681, dated October 9, 1894. Application filed March 31,1893. Serial No. 468.568. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERIC L. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Support for Water-Pitchers and Similar Receptacles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof and illustrating all the features of my new ornament or pattern.
The leading feature of my new design consistsh in the reversed, curved scrolls herein set fort A, A, A and A are reversed scrolls which, being duplicated and connected on their opposed edges, form the base of one of the vertical sides of the support S. Scroll A is curved from 1 to 2; scroll A from 3 to 4; scroll A from 5 to 6; and scroll A from 7 to 8. The scrolls A, A, A and A are best made in a single casting and may be used singly or be duplicated, as desired. Each casting which embraces the scrolls A, A, A and A as shown, has a side extension A and when the castings are duplicated, a space B is afforded between the inner edges of the combined scrolls; and the united projections A serve as a base for an ornamental figure D, if such is desired.
The compound scroll G, which forms half of that section of the support which is between the base portion (made up of the combined cast scrolls above referred to) and the handle forming portion H, is composed of scrolls g, g, g and g. The compound scroll G is ordinarily a casting, and in the support shown, is duplicated, being united at its inner edges to a vertical bar 9 The compound scrolls G may of course be used singly, if desired, in various articles of manufacture, j ustas is the case with the cast scrolls embracing the portions A, A ,.A and A From the duplicated, compound scrolls G rises a curved bar H, which, being duplicated, forms the handle of the support. This curved bar H is ornamented by the scrolls h, h, leaf h the ornamented enlargement h, leaf h; and the bar terminates in the enlargement k This curved bar H is a casting, and when duplicated, the bars H are united at their ends h, and the other ends are joined to the desired article. It will be seen that the support, as a whole, is made up of the combined various scrolls already described, and two ornamental figures which occupy the clear space bounded by the inner edges of the duplicate scrolls A- A inclusive.
What I claim is- The design for a pitcher or similar support herein shown and described.
FREDERIO L. THOMPSON. Witnesses:
FREDERICK RATCLIFF, FRANCIS K. ALLEN.
