Description

' ROBERT A. FISHER, or EUREKA,- NEVADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SLAG-POTS FOR USE AT SMELT lNG-FURNACES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,868, dated October 1, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT A. FISHER, of
Eureka, Lander county, State of Nevada, have invented Improvements in Slag-Pots; and I do hereby declare the following descriptionand accompanying drawing are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvements without further invention or experiment.
My invention relates to an improvement in that class of pots used about smelting-furnaces, which are known as slag-pots. These pots are used for receiving the slag as it comes from the furnace, and are consequently subjected to an extremely high temperature, by which the iron is suddenly expanded, rendering them liable to crack, split, or break, and frequently they are broken from other causes The expense of these pots is quite an item, where large smeltingworks are conducted, on accountiof this breakage. My invention con- .sists in constructing these slag-pots in sections, and then unitingthe sections by proper means, so that in case one of the sections should become cracked, split, or broken it can be readily replaced with a new section at a composite projections together, and thus complete.
the pot.
Various clamping arrangements can be applied to fasten the sections together, any of which will answer my purpose.
It is evident that a slag-pot thus construct ed will be much more economical than those constructed in one solid piece;
Having thus described my invention, what' I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A slag-pot, or equivalent pot or kettle, constructed in two or more sections, in the manner and for the purpose above described, as a new article of manufacture.
i In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal.
