UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. BRILL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR AN AXLE-BOX FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,087, dated February 27, 1894.
Application filed November 20, 1893. Serial No. 491,493. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. BRILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philaelphia, in the county of Philadelphia. and
5 state of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and useful Design for an Axle- Box Frame for Car-Trucks, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of the same.
My invention has relation to a design for an axle box frame, in which the essential feature is its configuration.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation;
Fig. 2, a top plan view, and Fig. 3 a rearend elevation.
The axle box frame is composed, among other things, of the intermitted side bars 1 and the cross bars 2, the union of the side to and cross bars forming a frame continuous in outline and rectangular in shape. The side bars have the central sections 3 and the end sections 4, 5, all lying in substantially the same plane. Intermediate of the proximate 2 5 ends of the side bars are located the axle box yokes 6, 7, the side bars being intermitted leaving rectangular spaces 8, 9 between the intermitted portions, the opposing ends of the intermitted portions of the side bars havgo ing the yokes extending therefrom, which are approximately in the shape of an inverted U. The bearing surface 10 of the yokes 6 extends above the web of both central and end sections 3, 4 of the side bars, and the upper portion of the yoke 6 is provided with the outwardly extending arms 11; while the bearing surface 12 of the yoke 7 extends above and below the plane of the central and end sections 3, 5 of the side bars. By reference to Fig. 2 it will be seen that the yokes 6, 7 and arms 11 are widerthan the adjacent portions of the axle box frame. The rear cross bar 2 joining the side bar sections 5 has extending upwardly therefrom the two angularly disposed arms 13 which are united at the top by a cross bar 14 disposed parallel with the cross bar 2, the cross bar being wider than the cross bar 2, the arms 13 increasing in diameter as they approach the cross bar 14.
Having described my design, I claim- The design for an axle box frame,substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, this th day of October, 1893.
J OIIN A. BRILL.
