J. A. BRILL. AXLE BOX FRAME. No. 22,468. Patented May 23, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. BRILL, ()F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR AN AXLE-80X FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,468, dated May 23, 1893. Application filed February 4, 1893. Serial No. 461,073. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN A. BRILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and useful Design for an Axle-Box Frame, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same.
Myinvention has relation to the design for an axle box frame, the essential feature of which is the configuration of the same.
In the drawings forming partof this specification Figure 1 is a plan view of the axle box frame. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 an end elevation looking in the direction of the arrow, Fig. 1.
The axle box frame is composed of the side bars, or longitudinal members, 1 and the cross bars 2, joining the longitudinal bars 1 at the ends, the union being rounded as at 3, the whole forming a rectangular frame. Intermediate of the ends of the side bars are located the axle box yokes 4., 5, the side bars being intermitted, leaving spaces 6, 7, between the intermitted portions, the opposing ends of the intermitted portions of the side bars having the yokes extending therefrom, which are approximately in the shape of an inverted U. The center of the bearing surfaces 8 of the yokes 4 lies above the longitudinal center of the webof the side bars 1; while the operative surfaces 9 of the yokes 5 align, with the central longitudinal center of the side bars at this point; and, further, the legs 10 of tho yokes 5 extend below the side bars, whereas the legs 11 of the yokes 4 are flush with the bottom of the side bars. The side bars are given adownward bend, as at 12, in order that the relation of parts assigned to the yokes 5 and the side bars at that point can be preserved, and by reference to Fig. 3 it will be seen that the yokes 4 are higher than, or extend above, the yokes 5.
By reference to Fig. 1 it will be seen that the yokes are wider than the web of the axle box frame; and Figs. 2 and 3 disclose the fact that the legs of the yokes are higher than the said web.
Adjacent to the yokes4 are created lugs, or swelled portions, 13, through which are formed holes 14; and about centrally between the yokes 4 and 5 on the side bars are like lugs 15 and holes 16, and between the ends of the lower cross bar 2 are like apertures,or holes, 17 formed within the bosses 18.
Having described the same, I claim The design for an axle box frame, substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, this 1st day of February, 1893.
J OIIN A. BRILL.
