DESIGN.
J. W. MAILLOT.
. SPOON, 6Z0. N0. Zl,470. Patented Apr. 19,1892.
m 17606762224 7 n Jmilafi UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN -WALTER MAILLOT, OF NORTH ATTLEBOROUGI-I, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO FRANK M. WHITING, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON, 8 00.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,470, dated April 19, 1892.
Application filed March 21, 1892. Serial No. 425,858: Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN WALTER MAILLOT, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Attleborough, Bristol county, Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handles of Spoons, Forks, or Like Articles, of which the following is a specification.
The figure in the accompanying drawing represents a plan View of a complete spoon, to the handle of which is applied myimproved design.
\Vhile I have shown the design applied to the handle of a spoon, I desire it to be understood that it may be applied to the handle of a fork or like article and may be upon one or both sides.
The leading feature of my design consists of two scrolls, one forming the extreme end of the handle and the other located directly beneath, the scrolls being reversed in position and surrounded with branching ornamentation. The scroll on the end of the handle has its largest part forming the extreme end of the handle, and this is ornamented by branching ornamentation, which extends beyond the line of the scroll and toward the inner part thereof, and this ornamentation follows the line of the scroll along the right-hand margin, the two parts of the scroll curving inward, leaving depressed portions, (shown by the shade-lines,) and these depressed portions may be in the form of openings when it is desired to have the scroll in open-work instead of solid, as formed, the design being unchanged. The lower scroll is of substantially the same shape as the upper scroll, eX cept that the unbroken part of the scroll is turned to the left instead of to the right, and between the upper and lower scrolls I provide the branching ornamentations similar to those provided for the upper scroll, and the same ornamentation is provided beneath the lower scroll, between it and the reduced part of the handle.
I claim The design for the handles of spoons, forks, and the like, herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN W'ALTER MAILLOT. Witnesses:
EUGENE OBRIEN, WM. H. POND.
