LEO STEIN, OF ROCHESTER, NE YORK.
DESIGN FOR A BU RlAL-CASKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,491, dated January 2'7, 1891. Application filed April 22, 1889, Serial No. 308,213, Term of patent 14 years.
To (0Z5 whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEO STEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Burial-Caskets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is an elevation of the detached end of a burial-casket, showing my design. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same, these two figures being deemed necessary to fully illustrate my design.
The leading feature of my design consists in a casket having on its side a depressed panel A, a raised top bar a, projecting beyond the plane of the panel B and having its outer face formed by horizontally-extending concave-convex and inclined planes, a lower bar at the base of the panel having its outer face formed with horizontally-extending coneavoconvex and concave surfaces, and raised columns B, projecting beyond the plane of the panel and within the plane of the upper crossbar A denotes the depressed panel of the coffin, which consists of a plane surface. At the top of the panel A is the top bar or molding (1, having heads at its top and bottom edge, with concave-convex and inclined surfaces between the two heads.
Z) represents the lower bar at the base of the panel A, the outer face of which is formed with a top and bottom bead and with a concave-convex and concave surface between the two heads.
B represents the columns raised above the plane of the panel A, with their upper extremity depressed within the plane of the bar a. The central portion of the column is flat and formed with a series of depressed panels or grooves and the extremities with a series of inclined planes. This peculiar arrangement of surfaces of different contour arranged in planes one within the other pro dnces a very desirable eifect and renders the design very pleasing.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for burial-caskets, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name, in the presence of two attesting witnesses, at Rochester, in the county of Monroe, in the State of New York, this 29th day of March, 1889.
FRED W. BURN, MATT. H. PALMER.
