DESIGN FOR THE ORNAMENTATION 0F SASH-LIFTS OR UTHER ARTICLES 0F BUILDERS' HARDWARE.

To all whom t may concern:

Vle it known that I, FLOYD N. PERKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and Strate of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Builders Hardware, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.

In the drawings, Figure l is a front or face view of a hand-lift for window-sashes, adapted to be set in and about a recess in the baserail of the lower sash of a window; and Fig. 2 is a transverse section of said plate.

The leading feature of my design consists in the matting figure-work which covers the face of the plate between its plain borders on the face proper and on the face of the socket portion.

A is the face proper of the hand-plate., which is rectangular in outline and provided with a plain border Z1 along its edge and a similar border e around the oblongl recess therein. Between these borders, on a slightlydepressed surface, is the matting ornamentation e. The. lines of the matting run diagonally to the ends of the plate both right and left, so that they cross each other at right angles. Each line consists in two raised threads 3o f, lying close together, with slight space between them, and a circular indentation g marks the angle where the sets of lines cross each other. In the center of the small squares thus formed by the sets of lines is a slight quadrangular prism or projection Il, which has four inclined sides corresponding to the right-angled lilies by which it. is bordered. The eect is rich and pleasing to the eye.

'lhe facing in the bottom of the recess,like the plate propel', has a plain border k and the matting ornamentation e on a lower plane than the border, the same as on the surface of the plate proper.

The articles-of buiiders" hardware to which the invention is applicable are such as sashlifts, (shown in the drawings,) lock-fronts, door-hinges, escutcheons, and the like articles having exposed. surfaces, upon which the ornamentation is placed with equal advantage, or according as said articles are more or less exposed to view.

'lhe design for the ornamentation of sashlifts and kindred articles of builders1 hardware, as herein shown and described, the same consisting of a matting figure on the surface of the article, formed by pairs of two parallel ribs crossing each other ai right angles, a circular indentationin the angle of the ribs, and a slight projection in the block between the pairs of ribs, having four inclinedsides.
