Description

FIP: D5196 DESIGN.
D. R. NIVER.
BOOK AND GOVER.
No. 18,924. Patented Feb. 12, 1889.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID R. NIVER, OF OAK PARK, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO RICHARD S. THAIN, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A BOOK AND COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,924, dated February 12, 1889.
Application filed October 3, 1838. Serial No. 287,584. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID R. N IVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oak Park, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and originalDesign fora Book and Cover, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
The leading feature of my design consists in a book and cover, the outlines in the form of a folded shirt, the body whereof and the collar and cuffs are exposed to View, the front and back of the cover being continuous at their rear edges and disconnected at their front edges, and having upon the outer surfaces of the front portion a figure in the similitude of the bosom, cuffs, collar, and buttonholes of a folded shirt.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a book and cover of my design, the lower right-hand corner of the figure being in distorted perspective in order to show leaves having matter printed thereon secured in place. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same open.
The leaves of the book are in their outlines of the same configuration as the cover.
Referring to the drawings, A is the bosom of the shirt, which is shield-shaped in its general outline, and has representations a of openings or holes for the shirt-studs.
B represents the collar, and O the cuffs. The sleeves D are so folded that only their ends show.
6 is the button-tab, and F represents leaves which may contain matter of advertisement or information. The body G is rectangular in its general outline, the corners being rounded and the collar and button-tab projecting from opposite ends of the body.
The back of the shirt is shown at II in Fig. 2, and is of the same configuration as the front above described, and has projections corresponding in their outlines to the collar and button-tab.
The front and back portions are continuous along one edge, as shown at 71, and are disconnected at their opposite edge.
I claim- The design for a book and cover, the same consisting of the design herein shown and described, the outlines whereof are in the form of a folded shirt and having on the front portion thereof a figure in the siinilitude of the bosom, cuffs, collar, and button-holes of a folded shirt, and leaves whose outline is in the form of a folded shirt.
DAVID R. NIVER.
