DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,736, dated November 13, 1888.
Application led October 1H, 1888.
.To @ZZ whom it Netty concern:
Beit known that I, HERMAN IIILENBURG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and original Design for aFont oi' Type, of which the following is aspeeication.
My design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographie impression, te which reference is made.
The font of type is termed Faney, and consists of ornamental, plain-line, unshaded letters, the letters A, B, G, J, L, O, Q, R, S, W, X, Y, and Z of the upper-ease having portions terminating in a scroll. The terlninatiens of the vertical lines of the remaining letters are flared or thickened, as fully shown. The letters of the upper-ease are not ofnniform depth, the letters A, B, D, E, G, I, K, L, M, N, O, S, U, AV, YV, X, and Z being of one depth, while the remaining letters, C, F, H, J, N, l, Q, R, T, and Y, are of greater depth, the top of each of the upper-case letters, however, being on the same line, so as to impart an even appearance to the top of the Term of paient 7 years.
printed line. The bottoms of the letters, however, are not all in the same plane, the letters C, F, H, J, N, I), Q, R, T, and Y projecting below the others. The open letters C, U, and V ofthe upper-ease type are ornamented by a central dot.
The peculiar characteristics of the uppercase types are preserved in the lower-case letters so far as is compatible with the changed form of the latter.
The top of each of the numerals is on the same line, While the numerals 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9 project below the others.
I claim as my invention- The design for a font of type, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
