DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR A SPOON OR LIKE ARTICLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part 0f Dsign No, 16,642, dated April 20, 1886.
Application filed March 18, 1886. Serial No. 195,179. Term of patent 7 years.
To (LZZ whom it may concern:
Beit known that LWILLIAM RoGERs,a citi` zen of the United States, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced anew and original Design for the Handle of Spoons, Forks, Snc., of which the following is a specication, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, in which is represented a front View of a spoon having my new designed handle.
The invention relates to a design for a han dle of a spoon and like articles of table-service; and it consists in the peculiar coniiguration of the upper part of the handle, in connection with the representation ot' blooming plants thereon, as shown.
To describe theinvention more fully. Starting from the bowl of the spoon or from the body of the article, the lower portion, A, of the stem of the handle has the sides slightly concave until the boss a is reached, and from that point to tip b the sides c c are slightly curved but divergent lines free from lateral projections, and the tip is in the form of two nearly straight lines, b, converging from the upper end of the sides c toward the axis of the handle of the article; and within the space between the sides c c b2 b2 is a similar-shaped panel, d, having therein the-representation or design of flowering plants, as primroses, having four petals to each bloom, said plants being grouped, as shown in the accompanying illustration, and upon the boss a, is a representation of some leaves and blooms of a small plant, as the lily of the Valley.
The design for the handle of a spoon or like article herein described and shown, having the sides c c slightly curved, but divergent from the boss ct, and free from lateral projections, and the tip b, having its sides b2 substantiallystraighmbut converging toward the f central axis, and between said sides a correspondinglyshaped panel containing flowering plants in bloom, grouped substantially as shown.
