W. D. DAVIES. CLOCK AND INKSTAND.
Patented July 8, 1884.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER n. DAVIES, on BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE ANSONIA CLOCK COMPANY, on ansonm, CONNEGIIGUT.
DESIGN FOR A CLOCK AND INKSTAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 15,127, dated July 8. 1884.
Application lilod March 14, 1884. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VALTER D. DAVIES, of the city of Brooklyn, in the count; of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for a Combined Clock and Inkstand, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 is a plan, of my design.
My design embraces a. base, A, and a standard, B. The base supports the ink-bottles and a box, 0, and the standard which contains the clock-dial is erected on the back part of the base. The base is entirely shown in outline, but only one-half 'of its front and one-half of one side has the ornamentation fully represented, as that is sufiicient to illustrate the design, the other parts of the ornamentation being mere multiplication of those fully represented. The general form of the central or principal portion of the base is that of a nearly flat parallelogram having the margin beveled with inner and onter fillets, z z, and having the bevel ornamented in has-relief between the fillets z'z with scallops a, containing leaves I), which are repeated all the way around, except at the corners, each of which is filled out with trel'oils c c c. From the front of the parallelogram of the base there projects an open-work ornament, (shown more particularly in Fig. 2,) having an oviform center, d, flanked with foliatcd work a f g and scroll-work h a, and from each side of the parallelogram there projects an ornament similar in detail to that just described on the front. The front of the box 0 is divided into one central and two flanking panels. One of the flanking panels and onehalf the central panel have their ornamentation fully shown in Fig. 1 The ornamentation of the other flanking panel and the other half of the central panel are but re etitions of what is shown. The central pane has in bus-relief a seriw of radiating stems with 0' liations j j, included within a nearly scmicircolor scroll, k, flanked with flowers l, and trc foils in the lower corners. The flanking panel has in bus-relief an oviform central ornament, m, with conforming scrolls n n at its sides and trefoil ornaments p p at its top and bottom. The profile of the lower part of the standard B is in vertical lines, above which it is contracted at 1-1- in scroll form, and the profile of the portion above this contraction surrounding the circular space D occupied by the clockdial is approximately hexagonal. Flanking the space D are figures of nude children in highrelief seated upon scrolls q q in has-rclicf, and holding up has-relief scrolls s, leaves t o, and flowers u, the configurations of which 6 are fully represented in Fig. 1. The spaces between the children and the scrolls q q are occupied by leaf-undscroll ornamentation w What I claim, and desire to secure by Let- 6 tons Patent, is-
1. In a clock and inkstand combined, the design of the ornaments on the front and sides of the base, consisting of the center (I and the foliated and scroll-work c f g h i, associated 0 and arranged as herein shown and described.
2. In a clock and inkstand combined, the design for the standard, consisting of the childrens figures flanking the dial-space, seated on scrolls q q, and supporting scrolls 8, leaves to, and flowers u,.as herein shown and described.
3. In a clock and inkstand combined, the design of the front of the box 0, consisting of the central and flanking panels containing the ornaments j k l m a 0 p, as herein shown and described. I
