V ATTORNEYS.
HUBERT C. HART, OF UNIONVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A FORK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 14,441, dated November 27, 1883.
Application filed October 6,
1883. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUBERT C. HART, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Unionville, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Forks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,whicl1 form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a front view of my newly-designed fork. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, and Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 are cross-sections on lines o o, w at, y y, and z z in Figs. 1 and 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
My new design has relation to that class of forks in which the handle, shank, and prongs are made in one piece, the handle being thicker than the shank, forming ashoulder at its upper end, and tapering upwardly in width and downwardly in thickness.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the handle, which tapers upward in width and downward in thickness, and is elliptical in cross-section at its upper end, the said ellipse having a proportionately long and short axis,"bec0ming flattened toward the lower end where the wider sides are flat, as shown at B. At the upper end the handle forms a shoulder, O, at which point the shank commences, forming a groove, D, above which is a bead or bulge, E, the upper end of which has its front and rear sides flattened, as shown at F, passing over into the flat shank G, the faces bead pass over into the rounded edges of the shank.
The prong end of the fork is of the usual design with its faces passing into one with the faces of the shank.
\Vhat I claim as new is- The design for a fork, consisting of the handle tapering upwardly in width and downwardly in thickness, having the flat sides at the lower end and ashoulder at its upper end, a shank and groove above the shoulder, a head above the groove having the front and rear sides of its upper end flat, passing over into the flat sides of the shank, and its sides passing over into the rounded edges of the shank and the upper fiat portion of the shank, as shown and described.
In testimony thatI claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto afiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
