Description

026-102 AU 291 ()Q D 1401 DESIGN FOR A BANNER LAMP SHADE STAND.
Design No. 14,152, dated July 31, 1883.
PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL \V. \VILKINS, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A BANNER LAMP SHADE STAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 14,152, dated July 31, 1883.
Application filed May 21,1883. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL W. WILKINs, of Boston, Suffolk county, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Design for Banner Lamp Shade Stands, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a design for a stand used to hold abanner or shade; and it consists in a certain improvement in the general con tour of the article, and a special ornamentation thereof, substantially as hereinafter de scribed, and shown in the drawing.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying photograph, which shows abanner lamp shade stand having my improved design.
The stand here illustrated has a circular stepped base, I); but this forms no part of my design, as any other shaped base might be used. The upright which is mounted on the base, and which is here shown of a round form in its transverse section, consists of the parts a d, the lower part, 0, being of greater diameter than the upper part, d, thereby giving to the said upright the appearance of a telescopiclike column, while in reality the two parts are rigidly connected together. The cross-bar a on said upper portion, and from which the banner is suspended, is of correspondinglylight appearance as said upper portion. This sectionally -'diminishing appearance of the whole upright not only breaks the monotony, but gives the upright a symmetrical aspect, resembling a telescopic like column diminishing upward from its base, with a light cross tree or bar near its top. The upper end of the lower portion, 0, of the upright is furthermore ornamented by a partial globe-likc protuberance, f, from the side of which there projects a thumb-screw, s, which ornament f serves to destroy all appearance of abruptness at the junction of the two portions 0 d with each other, and further increases the telescopic-like appearance of the upright. The top end of the portion (1 of the upright and outer ends of the cross-bar e are also embellished by suitable ornaments, g, of any suitable pattern.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The within described design for banner lamp shade stands, which consists of a spread base and an upright having the appearance of a telescopic-like column in two sections, 0
d, with its larger section next to the base, and having its upper and 1 smaller section crossed near its top by a cross tree or bar of like light appearance as said upper section or portion, essentially as shown.
2. The design for a banner lamp shade stand herein shown and described, the same consisting of an upright composed of the sections 0 (I, having the appearance of a telescopic-like column in two sections, 0 d, the lower and larger one, o, of which sections is mounted on the base I) of the stand, and is decorated by an ornamental protuberance, f, at its top, where it merges into or meets the upper reduced section, d, which is ornamented and crossed near its top by the bar 0, as herein shown.
- Boston, May 16, 1883.
