UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ORLANDO W. BUTLER AND THOMAS W. KELLEY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW Y# DESIGN FOR A CARD OR CIRCULAR.
SPECIFIKJATION forming part of Design No. 13,464, dated December 5, 1882.
Application Iliad June 10.1882. Term o! patent N years.
'i'o all ichom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ORLANDO W. BUTLER and THOMAS W. KELLEY, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Design for Cards and Circulars, of which the following is a descriptiou.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts iu both the gures.
Figure l represents .one o f our newly-designed cards. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the same on line a: x, lfig. 1.
Heretofore it has been customary to print invitations, names, @to on separate cards and paste them ou sheets of paper; but this makes the invitations, cards, circulars, &c., very expensive.
In making our improved cards, circulars &c., a blank card or circularr A, is provided with a large and two smell panels, B B, which are pressed, stamped, embossed, or produced in any other way in relief on this card, circular, or. other sheet A. The raised panels can have any desired shape, and may be made more or less ornamental, as the circumstances may call for. Words` inscriptions, verses, or ornaments are printed on these raised panels, as shown in Fig. l. A very handsome effect is thus produced at a very low cost, for the raised panels have the appearance of cards or sheets secured on a background. The edges of the raised panels are beveled, and may be ornamented with goldor color, if desired..
Having thus described our invention, we ciaimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The herein-described design for cards, consisting of a large and two small' embossed panels ou a card or sheet. for receiving the matter to be printed, substantially as shown.
