To 'all whom it may concern.'
g Be it know'nhat I, Bessin W. ALLEN, s citizen of the United States, residing etNew York, inthecounty of New York, have invented certain new and useful' Improvements in Novelties Adapted for Advertising and other Purposes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to e. neviT and useful novelty particularly adapted for advertising purposes, though it is to be understood'that its use' is net limited to such purposes, and the object of my invention'is to produce e novelty which will represent a human figure having th'e appearance of being dressed,-
with the different portions of the dress and the fold thereof clearly appearing. y
With these and other objects in view my invention consists incertain constructions and combinations of parts` one embodiment of which will be first described in connection.
with the accompanying drawing and then the inventionpsrticularly pointed out in the appended claims. i
Referring to the' drawing wherein the seme part isA designated by the same ref-V erence numeral wherever it occurs, Figure l trai, longitudinal section teken on line 2, 2 of Fig. 1 and looking in the direction of th arrows, and Fig. 3 is a section taken on line' 3, 3 of Fig. l and the arrows. v
In the following description l will describe the particular construction of e single lookingr in the direction of form or figure', it being understood thatthe" shape, number 'and erre ement of parts can be varied to produce various eiiects of dress and the like.
5 designetes n backing sheet which, in the form shown,'hns e rectangular beseportion, and an u wardly-extending narrow strip 6.
'The widt 'of the strip-and the size of the base-portion may, however, be veried its desired und, if desirable, can be inode into the form of a. card or other backing lsrger than the figure. To the upper portion of the b/nclyring 6 is pasted or otherwise secured s sheet of paper 'l' on which, in the exemple shown, is minted o'r otherwise applied, the ust of aV woman. Esch of the separate portions ofthe gown, such for ' instance es 8, 9, l0, 1i, 12, i3, 14, 15 and it@ are formed by cutting s piece of cardboard Speeiicstion of Letters Patent. sppnoenos niet :February t, ieis.- serial No. riesci.
of New Yorkend State' ing thicknesses o 'the other portions being .17, paper, or the like, 'into the desired shape, placing more or less wedding upon the same, and then covering the wdding'with the materiel 19 of which the dress is to be formed, the edges-of the .materielbeing secured by pasting or the like 'tothe rear portion of th'e backing 17 ,of that section.. These sections are then ps'tedn proper position on the main backing sheet 5, es illustrated in Fig. 1. By cutting the backing section 1 7 to 1proper shapes, using varytions any desired costume'can 'be produced on the figure end the igure given any de'- sired shape. in the form oflny invention shoving I have applied a sheet 20 to the entire beck portion of the figure, and have also provided n portion 21,Which forms a leg or brace to csuse the ligure to stand np;
rlght.
resented sept-.niets cotton batting vor otherY wedding and varying the l' colors of the materiel of the different sec- I realize that considerable variation is" possible in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing rfrom the spirit of my invention, and l therefore do not intend to limit myself to the specific form shown and described.
Having thns described my invention what claim as new andv desire to secure-by Letters Patent is:
` l.' A -noveltyLforl advertising and other purposes comprising s figure s portion of which is tinted to .represent certain parts, formed by bacliings of various shapes, vetici; beclnng being covered withmaterial toiorm e portion of the garment for the figure, and si mein backing on .which the sections `ere mounted.
