Description
(ModeL) G. KAUFMANN.
' PAPER WREATHI' Patented Apr. 14, 1885.
WITNESSES; v v
ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT UEEic CHARLES KAUFMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PAPER WREATH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent'No. 315,795, dated April 14, 1885.
Application filed October 1:, mad. (Modem I To CLZZ whom v it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES Kanrrrnnmof the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Paper \Vreath, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved wreath made in imitation of a wreath of natural leaves.
lhe invention consists in a circular piece of paper, card-board, or analogous material, having its edges cut or punched out, the same as the contours of a wreath of natural leaves, and having its face printed in colors, in imitation of a wreath of natural leaves, on which circular piece separate leaves are held at their stern ends.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a face view of my improved paper wreath. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the same.
A circular piece, A, of paper, card-board, or analogous material, is punched or cut out, and on it the contours of leaves and berries, or leaves alone, or leaves and flowers, are printed, shaded, and colored and slightlyv embossed. The edges of the circular piece are cut or punched to coincide with the edges or contours of a flat wreath made of natural leaves.
In the drawings a wreath of holly-leaves is represented; but oak, maple, or other leaves may be represented. Separate leaves B,
punched out of paper or card-board, are suitably colored, and are provided at the stem ends with tongues G, which are passed through slots in the circular piece A and pasted to the back surface, whereby the leaves B are held loosely on the surface of the piece A. As the free ends are a shortdist-ance from the surface of the piece A, they show heavier shadows and give the wreath more of the appearance of a wreath made of natural flowers. Flowers can be secured on the wreath as well as leaves.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In an imitation wreath, the combination, with a circular piece of paper or card-board,of separate pieces secured on the face of the same, the face of the circular piece being printed in colors to represent a wreath of leaves or flowers, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In an imitation wreath, the combination, with the circular piece A, printed in colors, in imitation of a natural wreath, of separate leaves secured at their stem ends 011 the colored face of the piece A, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. In an imitation wreath, the combination, with the circular piece A, printed in colors,in imitation of a wreath, of the leaves B, having tongues G passed through slots in the piece A, and secured to the back of the piece A, substantially as herein shown and described.
CHARLES KAUFMANN.
