Description
F. R. SEIDENSTIOKER.
HANGING LAMP.
Patented May 16, 1882.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I ROBERT SEIDENSTIOKER, OF MERIDEN, ()ONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE' BRADLEY 8n HUBBARD MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A HANGING LAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,930, dated May 16, 1882.
Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, F. ROBERT SEIDEN- STICKER, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for a Hanging Lamp; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawin g and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a face \IGW.
This invention relates to a design for lampfixtnres such as used for suspending a single 'lamp from the ceiling, and which consists of a loop-like frame, to which the chains are attached, a weight, and hanger; and the design consists in the configuration and ornamentation of the parts, as hereinafter described, and shownin the accompanying illustration.
First, the frame. This consists of a seginentrshaped cross-piece, A, at the bottom, in the center of which is the lamp-holder B. At each side the cross-piece turns outward horizontally, bends downward, and returns upon itself near the holder. The sides 0 start from the cross-piece A, running upward, turned at right angles inward, thence upward, thence curved inward and upward to the shade-ring D, where they are attached. At the bends or angles in the sides square rosettes are represented as a finish at those points. The frame is ornamented by the representation of flowers, as shown.
Second, the weight E, which is of inverted frnstum of cone shape, its upper edge lmving upwardly projecting tongues a, of dovetail shape, the surface ornamented.
Third, the hanger F--that is, the part by which the fixture is hung to the ceiling. This is of inverted cone shape, its lower end terminating in a hook. Its larger or upper end has an outwardly-projectin g flange, h, to conceal the pulleys above, and to which the frame below is suspended. On the surface are annular bands, ornamented as shown.
as shown.
While these several parts are'designed to make one complete fixture, I do not limit my design to the combination of the four parts hereinbefore described, as either of the said four parts may be used with three difierent parts; or other designs may be substituted for either of the said four parts, it only being essential that there shall be four parts to form a complete whole, one or more of which shall be as herein described and claimed.
I claim- 1. The design for frame for hanging lamps, consisting of the segment-shaped cross-piece A, extending outward, turned downward, and returning upon itself near the center, and the sides 0 0, having the angular turns orna mented by rosettes and thefloriated ornamen- 7o tation, as described and shown.
2. The design for the weight E, consisting of the inverted frnstum of cone shape, its upper edge ornamented by the upwardly-projecting dovetail-shape tongues, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
3. The design for the hanger F of inverted cone shape, with a projecting flange, h, at its larger end, and havingits surface ornamented by the annular band, as shown in the acconi- 8o panying illustration. r
4. The design for the holder B, its upper edge representing a. series of darts, presenting a scallop-like edge and tongues between the darts, the under side ornamented by annular bands, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
