SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 11,655, dated February 17, 1880.

To all whom t may concern:
Be itknown that l, VWM. B. ])U1:GIN,ofUoncord. in the county of Merrimack and State of New Hampshire, have originated and designed a Pattern for the Handles of Tableware, such as spoons and forks, oi' which the following description, in connection with the accompanyingI photographic illustration, is a speciiication.
The photograph shows the handle, the subject of this design, in three different sizes, both at l'ront and rear, the said handle in some of the figures being employed with spoonbowls, and in others with fork-tines.
Referring to The face or main side ofthe handle, it will be seen that it has aboutits edge a bead, n, which, at the large end of the handle, terminates in a crook, b, which falls just within a chevron, c, extended across the rounded end oi" an oblong shield, (I, the small pointed end oi' which is terminated by a shelllike ornament, e.
The center of the chevron is herein shown as composed of bars, but its edge resembles a row ot' beads, the beads across the shield showing.;r prominently.
The angle or point ofthe chevron is further ornamented with a pen `lant,j`, extended out upon the shield.
Below the shell c is an ornamental iigure, g, which is much like ajleur-dc-lfis.
Within the bead a, and about the shield and the ornaments c and g, the face of the handle is wrought or traced, as at h, to resemble what is denominated Swiss scroll-work.
The rear side ofthe handle is shown asprovided with a bead, '17, about its edge.
The new design for the rear of the handle consists of the calla-lily l.: and fern-like leaves l, held in a ring, mi.
I claim- 1. The design for a handle for table-ware, composed ot' a shield, d, and a chevron. C, breaking in upon the shield, as shown.
2. rPhe shield (l and the shell-like ornament c at its narrow end.
5. The shield, shcll-like ornament e, erna nient g, and the Swiss scroll-work, forming a background for the other parts herein named, and extending down into the shank ofthe handle, as shown.
4. The shield with the chevron having a beaded edge and the crooked portions b, terminated within the chevron, as shown.
5. The design for the back of a handle, composed of the calla-lily k, fern-like ornament l, and encircling-ring m, as shown.
