Description

AVAELABLE CQPY No. 11,308 July 29, 1879 UNIT D STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
HENRY E. RUSSELL, JR, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE RUSSELL & ERVVIN MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR PADLOCKS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,308, dated July 29, 1879 application filcd May 10, 1879.
[Term of patent 14 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY E. RUSSELL, J r., of New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, haveinventcd a new and useful Design for Padlocks; and I do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the accom iianyingphotographic illustration, forming a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The characteristic feature of my design consists in a curved ornamentation of the exteriorof the segmental case of a padlock, which, being combined with a segmental hasp, conveys to the eye the effect of a complete circle.
As shown in the illustration, the contour of the face of the body A is in the form of a cir cle from which a section in the form of alune has been removed. The shackle B is in the form of a section of a circular ring, the external diameter of which is less than that of the body of the lock.
The exterior of the sides of the case at its top is ornamented with the segmental border a, which is of the same width as the hasp, and has the same external and internal lines, so that an ornamental exterioreiiect is produced, as of a hasp in the form of a complete. circle.
The faces of the lock and shackle may be plain, or may be ornamented in the Japanese or any other preferred style, as desired, the ornamentation forming no part of the design.
hat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The outline and side-face design for a padlock embodying, with a segmental case and a segmental hasp, the curved border a. 011 the side of the case, substantially as shown and described.
HENRY E. RUSSELL, JR.
