3. W. PUTNAM. Metal-Drilling Machine.
No. 11,221.- Patented June 3,1879.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SALMON W. PUTNAM, OF FITGHBURG, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR METAL-DRILLING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,221. dated June 3, 1879; application filed November 9, 1878.
[Term of patent 14 years] To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SALMON W. PUTNAM, of Fitch burg and State of Massachusetts, have originated and designed a Pattern for a Drill or other similar Metal-Working Tool, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying photographic illustration, making a part of this specification.
A represents the body or main upright support of my drill, provided with the longitudinal bearing F F to support the head G; and B, the curved or goose-neck portion. This portion is formed in a gradual curve until it reaches a proper distance for receiving the spindle or hit holder 0. The portion D, which furnishes the bearings for the Wheels or pulleys, is attached to the main body A at d, and then curves outwardly at E, as shown in the photograph.
The other parts of the drill may be arranged in any desired manner to produce a harmonious elfect.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a drill herein described, in which the upper portion of the frame is curved or provided with a goose-neck and the pulleysupport is a curved frame having transverse ribs over the lower and under the upper conepulleys, as set forth.
SALMON W. PUTNAM.
