' CONSUMI NG -RECEPTACLE FOR PAPER, 8w.
\ Speeification of Letters Patent. P t nted Jul 25, 1911.
Application filed July 20, 1910. Serial No. 572,906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lucius A. KNAUS, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a crtain new and Improved Consuming-Recep acle for Paper,
' &c., of wliich the following is a specification.
. My invention relates to a new and useful consuming receptacle especially adapted'for the burning of paper, leaves, or other trash, the object of the invention being to provide a receptacle/ for the purposes "mentioned which will prevent the scattering of sparks or burning particles and which is of simple construction and etficient in operation The invention consists in thelcombin'ation and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. My invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a receptacle embodying my invention, Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail section illustrating the mounting of the bottom of said receptacle. The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a wire mesh receptacle 1 composed of horizontal wires 2 and vertical wires The upper and lower edges of said receptacle are reinforced by wire rods 4 and 5 respectively to which the respective ends of vertical wires 3 are secured, as shown. The bottom of the receptacle consists of ametallic disk 11 suspended in receptacle 1 at a short distance from the bottom thereof, by means of tan'gs 7 stamped from. the body of said disk and bent downwardly and outwardly and secured to a corresponding horizontal wire 2,515 shown. Receptacle 1 is providedwith a lid ,8 consisting of a metallic disk hinged at 9 to the upper end of receptacle 1 at one side and provided at the opposite end with a handle 10. for manipulation of said lid.
In use the particles of paper, leaves or other trash or rubbish 'are placed in receptaole l and the lid 8 closed. Then the contents of said receptacle. are set afire, the
spaces between the wires of the sides of said receptacle admitting sufficient air for complete combustion, and the receptacle preventing the scattering of sparksfor burning particles. 4
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect this is capable of variation '01" modification without departing from the spirit ofthe invention. I, therefore,'do not wish to be limited to the desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of theappended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A device of the class described comprising .a w1re mesh receptacle; a sheet metal bottom for said receptacle'fixed therein at a distance above its lower end, inwardly extending tangs stamped from the body of said bottom and bent downwardly and outwardly beyond the edges thereof to en age a wire of said receptacle, and a top or said re.
