MATCH-SAFE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 16, 1910.
Patented July 18, 1911.
Serial No. 572,278.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK B. COLMYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Bloomfield, in the county of Ontario, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match- Safes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to match safes and has especial reference to a match safe of the single delivery type.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a very simple structure without moving parts which will deliver matches one at a time.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically set forth in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and Figure 1 is a side elevation of a match safe constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of such a match safe. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2, the safe being shown as containing matches.
This match safe comprises a receptacle or body in the form of a triangular prism. This prism is provided with end Walls 10 and 11 and side walls 12. Furthermore the prism is arranged to hang with one edge downward and has the remaining side hinged as at 1.3 to provide a top 14. The edges of the side walls 12 are spaced apart to form a slot which extends throughout the length of said side walls and which is slightly wider than the diameter of a match. The sides 12 are furthermore continued downward as at 15 to form a chute. One corner of each of these downward continuations is cut away diagonally as at 16. The end wall 10 is continued downward over the end of the chute as at 17 then beneath the diagonally cut portions as at 18 and then beneath the bottom as at 19. This portion 19 terminates beneath the edge of the portion 15 opposite to that which is in contact with the portion 17. The end plate 11 is continued downward as at 20 to close in this end of the chute and terminates in spaced relation to the bottom of said chute as at 21. There is thus provided an opening 22 wherethrough a match may pass.
In using the device matches are placed in the prismatic receptacle and passed one by one down the chute being arranged in the chute one on top of the other. The matches are so placed that the heads are faced toward the end plate 11 and when they pass down the chute the butts contact with the diagonal bottom 18 and force the heads successively out of the opening 22. The projecting head may be grasped by the thumb and fingers of a person and the match withdrawn. Immediately another match will take the place of the one which is removed. If the matches become clogged in the chute a slight will cause them to project properly.
The flat portion 19 as clearly shown in the drawings is considerably shorter than the length of the match whereby the head of the latter is directed to the delivery end of the match safe by the inclined surface 18 of the safe upon which the opposite ends of the matches temporarily rest.
For the purpose of suspending the case to a wall, a hanger 23 is provided on the end wall 10.
There has thus been provided a simple and eflicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
A match safe comprising a receptacle in the form of a triangular prism having one side hingedly attached to the remainder of the receptacle to form a closure, the edge of said prism opposite the closure being slotted throughout its length, the slot being slightly wider than the diameter of a match, the sides adjacent the slot being continued downward to form a chute, one corner of each side being cut diagonally, said chute having the end adjacent the diagonal portion and the bottom closed in by a plate, the In testimony whereof, I afiix my signalength of said bottom being shorter than ture, in presence of two Witnesses.
the len th of the match and an end Wall 7 for the upper portion of the other end of FRANK COLMX 5 said chlite and terminating in spaced rela- Witnesses:
tion to the bottom to permit the passage of EMMA Gr. ALLEN, a match through the opening thus formed. ALEX. GRIswALn.
