fl'o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CrrARLns CZINJAK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Massage Implements, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a massage implement, and the object of the invention is to provide an implement that can be easily handled for agitating the flesh or skin to that extent as to increase the circulation of blood and assist in removing impurities from the pores of the skin.
I attain the above object by an implement that is extremely simple in construction, durable and highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.
The invention will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing forming a part of this specification, wherein Figure 1 is a top plan of the implement, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan.
The massage implement comprises a rod 1 of a suitable length having one end thereof enlarged to provide a handle 2, and mounted upon and suitably secured to the opposite end of the rod 1 by a screw 3 or other fastening means is a split sleeve 41- adapted to snugly fit upon the forward end of the rod 1. The sleeve 4: has the forward edge thereof at a point intermediate the longitudinal edges provided with a forwardly extending resilient arm 5, said arm having laterally projecting branches 6 with the ends thereof bent downwardly to provide lugs 7. The arm 5 at a point between the branches 6 and the outer end of the sleeve 3 is bowed. The branches 6 of the arm 5 are arranged in parallelism and said arm between the rearmost branches 6 and the sleeve 4 is bent or provided with an off-set portion 8 adapted to increase the resiliency of the arm 5.
Mounted between the depending lugs 7 and engaging the under side of the arm 5 is a block 9 having the forward end thereof rounded, as at 10. This block is held between the lugs 7 by screws 11 or other fastening means and the bottom side of the block is provided with a plurality of equally spaced depending pyramidical shaped prongs or projections 12 constituting a rough surface adapted to agitate the skin when the block is moved back and forth upon the skin. The block 10 can be made of wood, hard rubber or any suitable material that will not cut, scratch or unduly injure the skin when the block is moved over the skin.
The resiliency of the arm 5, which is made of malleable metal, allows the block 9 to yield and to a certain extent prevents the user from too severely agitating the skin.
The rod 1 is made of a suitable length whereby the middle of the back can be easily reached and all parts of the body subjected to massage treatment.
hat I claim is A massage implement comprising a rod, a sleeve secured to and projecting from one end of said rod, a longitudinally-extending flat resilient arm projecting from the upper portion of said sleeve, said arm provided at one side of its center with a bow-shaped portion to provide a spring, said arm further provided forwardly of said bow-shaped portion with a plurality of sets of laterallyextending flanged branches, the branches of each set being oppositely disposed and extending in the same plate, each of the branches of each set terminating in a depending right-angularly disposed portion, a skin agitating block arranged between said right-angularly disposed portions of said branches, and means extending through said right-angularly disposed portions and engaging in the sides of the block for securing it to said arm.
