To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EUGENE WEBSTER, a subject of the King of England, residing at Sheho, Saskatchewan, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Currycombs; and I do' hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such'as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in curry combs and my object is to provide means for cleaning the teeth of the comb.

A further object is to provide means for raising and lowering the cleaning device and a still further obj ect is to provide automatic means for operating the raising and lowering device of the cleaner.

Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, Figure 1 is a central sectional view through the comb and handle attached thereto, and,l Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view as seen on line 2 2, Fig. 1 and showing parts of the comb broken away. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the rocking members carrying the cleaners of the comb teeth.

Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, l indicates the body of the comb, the front and rear edges of which are bent at right angles to form angular portions 2, the edges of said angular portions 2 having teeth 3 thereon and between said angular extensions are comb sections 4, which comb sections are preferably channel shaped in cross section and have their free edges provided with teeth 5. The spaces between the comb sections and angular portions are preferably of equal distances apart and between each pair of depending members is provided a clean* ing blade 6, which-cleaning blades are also preferably channel shaped in cross section, the depending free edges of the cleaning blades extending in juxtaposition to the faces of the depending portions of the comb sections, whereby when said cleaning blades are lowered, any foreign particles adhering to the teeth or other parts of the comb, will ported by frame members 7 and 8, which frame members are preferably oblong and have their outer bars 9 and 10 extending laterally of the trend of the cleaner blades, each of the cleaner blades terminating in hooks 11, which are bent upwardly and engaged with the outer bars of the frame members, so that when said barns are moved upwardly or downwardly, the cleaner blades will be operated accordingly.

The inner bars 12 and 13 of the frames 7 and 8 are extended through openings in the comb sections thereby forming pivots for the frame members and in order to rock said frame members on their pivots, the bars 12 and 13 are provided adjacent their longitudinal centers with cranks 14 and 15, which cranks are extended upwardly through openings 16 and 17 in the body 1 and are then curved inwardly to engage a link 18 carried by an arm 19, the length of said link being such as to permit movement of the cranks longitudinally of the link. The arm 19 is fixed to a handle 20 and the handle is in turn connected to the body 1 by means of a spring shank 2l, one end of the shank entering the handle, while the opposite end thereof is fixed to the body of the comb. The tension of the spring 21 is such as to normally hold the cleaning blades adjacent the upper ends of the comb sections 4, whereby the comb may be readily operated in the usual manner, but should any part of the coating of the animal adhere to the teeth of the comb, it may be readily and quickly removed by imparting a shaking action to the comb, moving the cleaners along the teeth thereof beyond the effective edges of said teeth, thus removing the adhering particles therefrom. In view of the rigidity of the arm 19 and by holding the handle 20 in a fixed position, downward pressure on the body will result in swinging the frame members 7 and S on their pivots, thus lowering the bars 9 and 10 and moving the cleaning blades 6 to the lower edges of the comb sections and in view of the close proximity of the depending p0rtions of the cleaning blades, any foreign particles adhering to the comb sections will be removed therefrom. As soon as the pressure on the body is removed, the tension of the spring shank 21 will immediately elevate the body and move the cleaning blades to their initial upward position.

The body 1 is greater in width than the length of the comb sections 4, thus providing overhanging portions below which the bars 9 and l0 are positioned and by locating said bars at this point, they will not project beyond the edges of the comb.

It will thus be seen that I have provided a very cheap and economical form of device for thoroughly cleaning the comb and one i that can be easily operated and it will likewise be seen that the cleaning device can be 'pivot and lower the cleaning blades when the body is depressed.

2. A cleaning attachment for curry combs comprising the combination with a body having comb sections thereon, ,a handle for 4said body and a spring shank connecting said handle to the body; of cleaning blades positioned between said comb sections, rectangular shaped frames supporting said cleaning blades, said frames having crank portions, means to pivotally mount said frames and means engaging said cranks to operate said frames and lower the cleaning blades when the body is depressed.

In a cleaning attachment for curry combs, the combination with a body having comb sectionsdepending therefrom; of cleaning blades positioned between said comb sections, frames pivotally mounted at the upper edges of said comb sections and having portions thereof extending beyond the ends of the comb sections, means on the cleaning blades to engage the projecting portions of the frames, cranks extending upwardly from said frames, a link engaging said cranks and `a supporting arm :for said link, whereby when said arm islheld-stationary and the body depressed, the frames will be rocked andj the cleaning blades lowered.
