To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN Hnonn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Red Bud, in the county of Randolph and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Intestine-Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in intestine cleaners and more particularly to a device for cleaning or scraping the mucous lining or membrane from the interior of the entrails of hogs or other animals to fit the same for casings or coverings for food prodncts.

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of said specification and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the preferred form of my device. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a front end view in elevation. Fig. 4 is a sideelevation of a modified form. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of Fig. 4.

Like reference characters indicate corre sponding parts throughout the several views.

Referring to Figs. 1 2 and 3 of the drawings the preferred form of the invention is illustrated as secured to a table or support 1 by the legs 2 which directly carry the lower and preferably longer blade 3 which is twisted or bent at 4 and positioned on edge between the point 4 and the front end of the blade, the upper edge of the blade from the front end to the point 4 being bev eled and sharpened as at 5, and from the point 4 to the rear or bifurcated end of the blade it is disposed flat or horizontally, and it is hinged at its bifurcated end to the upper or shorter blade 6 which blade, further, is connected to the blade 3 by means of the set screw 7 and by means of the bolt 8 provided with the tension spring 9 which bears against the blade 6; a thumb screw 10 carried in the twisted portion 11 of the blade 6 serves to adjust the same with relation to the blade 3. The blade 6 between its twisted or bent portion 11 and its free end is formed with a beveled cutting edge 12 adapted to cooperate with the cutting edge of the blade 3. A guide 13 carried by the blade 3 is projected above the same to retain the blades in alinement.

Referring to Figs. 4 and 5 a slight modification is shown. The form herein illustrated is adapted to be retained in the hand during use instead of being secured to a table or'support. The lower or longer blade A, similarto the blade 3 in the preferred form, is hinged as at B to the upper or shorter blade C; said blades being further connected by the adjusting screw D provided with the tension spring E which obtains a bearing upon each blade. A U-shaped guide F carried by blade A projects thereabove for cooperation with the blade C to retain it in alinement with the lower blade.

The intestines to be cleaned are first turned and suitably prepared and then drawn by hand between the blades of the device which perform the cleaning operation; the intestine being drawn between the blades from the side provided with the alined sharpened edges.

What is claimed is:

1. In an intestine cleaner, a lower blade formed with a beveled cutting edge, an up per blade formed with a cutting edge and hinged to said lower blade and means connecting said blades whereby they may be ad justed with relation to each other said upper and lower blades being twisted to stand at an angle to each other with respect to their transverse sections to effect engagement or cutting action therebetween along their longitudinal corner-edges.

2. In an intestine cleaner, a pair of blades having beveled cutting edges and hinged, and resiliently held together at one end, and means for the retention of said pair of blades in operative position said blades being twisted to stand at an angle to each other with respect to their transverse sections, to effect engagement or cutting action therebetween along their longitudinal corner-edges.
