To all whom it may concern:A

Be it known that I, EDWARD MCCLURE, a

lcitizen of the United States, residing at tomary to drill holes in the glass members of the case and to'secure the glass members together by brackets and bolts or screws that pass through said holes in the lass members, and through holes in the brac ets.

One of theobjectsof this invention is to dispense with holes in the glass and still to connect the several members of a glass show case in al perfectly rigid and substantial manner.

Another object is to simplify, cheapen and otherwise improve upon show cases of this type and to this endthe invention con? sists in certain novel means of construction and arrangement, a descrlptlon of whlch w1ll be found 1n the followlng specification,

and the essential features of which will be more definitely pointed out in theclaims.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the ldrawings furnished herewith, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a show case. embodying my improvements and illustratmg the same as mounted upon a counter, Flg. 2 is a vertical cross section of the device, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a corner support used 1n the device, showing in dotted lines-fragments of two of the lglass members of the show case, Fi 4 is a perspective View of an interme iate support and showing in dotted lines a fragment of one of the glass members of the show case, Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2, with the glass members view of an -intermediaterear post4 showing in dotted lines fragments of two of the glass members of the show case.

` In these views, a counter of ordinary form is seen at A, the same having the usual top a, which acts as a base upon which may be supported the show case B. In general said case comprises one or more glass fronts 10, a glass top 11, one or more rails 12, end pieces 13, and a partition or dividing member 14, said glass members being supported and secured in place as will be hereafter fully set forth. The glass front pieces are preferably of rectangular form and preferably made somewhat higher than the rails 12, and the glass top piece 11, is somewhat narrower than the counter so as to leave an opening between the rail and top through which the attendant may have access to the goods that are being displayed within the show case. It is obvious that when the glass is placed in position upon the ledge 25, it can not move endwise nor crosswise,-being held in lace by the anges 27, 2,6, and arms 24. The ledge 25, stopsshort of the flange 27, so as to leave a space therebetween, approximately equal to the thickness of the glass fronts 10, and the lug 20, is also spaced away from said iange 27, the same distance, whereby the glass fronts may be securely held in place between said iiange 27, and ledge 25, and lug 20. It is evident that as many intermediate supports may be used as may be desired and that any length of show case can be built up in this manner. 'If desired a second show case may be placed adjacent to the first one, the two adjacent corner supports assuming the appearance of an intermediate one, thereby maintaining a symmetrical appearance ythroughout'the entire show case.

From the above it is quite evident that a ve simple and substantial show case can be built up without the use of screws or bolts for fastening the glass pieces in place, thus a'ording a great savingof. timewand en; 5.2.0. i

More or less variation is possible in the details of construction, without departing Yfrom the spirit of this invention, and I do not therefore desire to limit myself except as may be necessary in view of the state of the'prior art.

I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters' Patent:

l. As a new article of manufacture, a support of the class described, comprising a single piece consisting of a post having means at its lower end'rwhereby it may be detachably secured upon a counter top and terminating at its upper end in a horizontally extending arm having a horizont-al ledge located slightly below the upper end of the post and being formed at its free end with an upwardly extending flange, said ledge being,

adapted tosupport ahorizontal glass plate and the upper end of the post and the flange being adapted to position the glass plate upon the ledge, said post being formed'at its lower end with a notch openlng laterall of the post and said ledge being formed wit a notch in vertical alinement with the first named notch, said notches being adapted to receive the lower and upper corners ofla ver. tical, longitudinally extending glass plate and said post being formed upon its side under 4 the arm with. upper and lower lugs spaced apart to receive and hold the end of a transverse glass plate which is arranged to extend underneath said arm.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a support of the class described, comprising a single piece consisting of a post having means at its lower end whereby it may be detachably secured upon a counter top and terminating at its upper end in a horizontally extending arm having a horizontal ledge located slightly below the upper end of the post and formed with a marginal'flange on one of its sides and its free end, said ledge being adapted to receive and support the end of a horizontal glass plate, the upper end of the post and marginal flange being arranged to position the glass plate upon the ledge, said ledge havingl a notch adjacent to the post and said post aving a notch at its lowerv end in vertical alinement with the first named' notch, said notches being adapted to receive the upper and lower corners of a vertical, longitudinally extending glass plate and said post being formed with upper and lower lugs on its side underneath thev arm, arranged to hold in position a transverse glass plate.
