COMBINED COMB AND CIGAR'GUTTER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL STEGEMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Racine, in the county of Racine, State of WVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Combs and Cigar-Cutters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap pertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a combined comb and cigar cutter.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of the character named which can be utilized either as a comb or cigar cutter and which may be handily carried either in the pocket or in a case for that purpose.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of the device of this character which will be simple in construction, efficient in use, and which may be manufactured at an exceedingly small cost.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views; and in which Figure 1, is a side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the invention with the blade of the cigar cutting element thereof shown in dotted lines at the limit of its movement in either direction and in full lines in intermediate position; Fig. 2, a view similar to Fig. 1 Viewed from the opposite side of the device; Fig. 3, a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4;, a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1; Fig. 5, a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 6, a section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings the device is shown as comprising a comb A which includes the back plate 10 carrying at one edge the teeth 11, and the handle 12. This Specification of Letters Intent.
Application filed September 17, 1910.

Serial No. 582,522.
comb is preferably constructed of aluminum so as to impart to same the necessary lightness and strength for convenience and durability in use.
The handle 12 is provided with an opening 13 adapted to receive the mouth tip of a cigar and pivotally connected to the handle 12 at 14 for movement across the opening 13 is a blade 15. Struck up from the handle 12 on one side of the pivot 11 is a stop 16 while another stop 17 is struck up from the handle 12 on the opposite side of said pivot 14. The stop 16 serves to limit the movement of the blade 15 in one direction on its pivot by engagement with its back edge while the stop 17 serves to limit the movement of the blade in the opposite direction by engagement with its front or cutting edge.
In order to hold the blade 15 against movement on its pivot when disposed either in engagement with the stop 16 or the stop 17 the inner end of said blade is curved as at 18 and formed in the handle 12 adjacent this curved end is an opening 19. Secured to the handle 12 by the pivot connection 14 on the opposite face from the blade 15 is a leaf spring 20, one end of which is curved outwardly and inwardly through the opening 19 so as to be disposed in position for coaction with the inner end of the blade 15. The free end of this spring 20 will, as is apparent, be compressed by the curved end 18 of the blade when the latter is disposed in an intermediate position with respect to the stops 16 and 17. However, when the blade is disposed against either of the stops 16 and 17 the free end of the spring 20 will be relieved of compression and lie substantially contiguous to the side edges of the blade and thereby secure the blade against movement on its pivot unless considerable force is applied thereto for that purpose.
I claim Y A device of the character described comprising a plate having an opening, a blade pivoted to the plate for movement across the opening and having its inner edge curved and its side edges straight, said plate being further provided with a second opening adjacent the pivoted end of the blade,
and a leaf spring secured to the plate on the movement in one direction to hold the same opposite side thereof from the blade and in given position. 10 having its free end curved outwardly and In testimony whereof, I afiix my signainwardly through said second named openture, in presence of two witnesses.

of said blade during its movement and with ARNE T. PETERSON,
a side edge of said blade at the limit of its FULTON THOMPSON.
